Bengaluru: Tension gripped Jagjeevan Ram Nagar on Sunday night after stones were allegedly hurled at devotees pulling a deity’s chariot during a procession from the local Om Shakti temple, police told Press Trust of India.

A police officer said a complaint was received alleging that miscreants pelted stones at the chariot during the procession. Sources said a child suffered a head injury and a young girl was also struck in the incident.

Following the alleged attack, devotees gathered outside the Jagjeevan Ram Nagar police station and staged a protest, demanding strict action against those responsible. Protesters claimed similar incidents had occurred earlier and insisted that a case be registered.

Police said an FIR has been filed and an investigation is underway. Security has been stepped up in the area, and west division deputy commissioner of police Yatish NB visited the police station to review the situation.

“Necessary action will be taken against those involved once their identities are established,” police said, adding that the situation is under control.
