NEW DELHI: Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, issued a warning regarding “strict and decisive” measures against Bangladeshi and Rohingya “infiltrators” within the state. He urged residents to verify the “identity of any individual thoroughly before engaging them in domestic or business activities.” “Esteemed residents of the state, the security of Uttar Pradesh, social harmony, and a strong law and order system are our highest priorities. We have commenced strict and decisive actions against Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators who are illegally residing in the state,” he stated in a post on X. “I call upon the vigilant citizens of the state to stay alert and ensure that the identity of any individual is thoroughly verified before employing them in domestic or business activities. The security of the state is a collective responsibility, as security is the foundation of prosperity,” he further added.

The state police have launched an operation targeting Rohingya and Bangladeshi individuals suspected of illegal residency in the state. This action comes in response to increasing concerns regarding foreign nationals obtaining Indian identity documents through fraudulent means. According to senior officials, authorities in 17 municipal bodies have been instructed to swiftly compile a list of foreign workers whose presence or employment appears questionable. The government has stressed that anyone attempting to settle in the state with forged documents will face stringent consequences.

Additionally, a comprehensive verification initiative for identity documents is currently underway following the discovery of attempts by several Rohingya and Bangladeshi individuals to acquire Aadhaar, voter IDs, and other Indian documents to pose as local citizens. Authorities have indicated that the coordinated effort between the police and the administration will guarantee meticulous examination of every suspicious case.
