In the region of Gilgit-Baltistan, which is under Pakistani administration, officials have issued warnings regarding additional rainfall expected to commence.
Heavy rains severely impacted numerous areas across Pakistan, leading to flooded roads and damaged residences, with reports indicating that at least seven individuals lost their lives in Dera Ismail Khan, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Residents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including those in Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, and both North and South Waziristan, also experienced significant rainfall.
In the cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, prolonged periods of rain resulted in flash flooding in local streams and drainage systems. Bhara Kahu was particularly affected, with water inundating homes and businesses, leaving vehicles stranded. In response, authorities opened the spillways of Rawal Dam to alleviate pressure as water levels rose. Hiking paths in the Margalla Hills, including Trails 2, 3, 4, 5, and the route behind Saidpur village, were closed for the safety of the public.
In Dera Ismail Khan, strong winds coupled with heavy rainfall caused trees to be uprooted and electricity lines to fall, resulting in power outages in several areas. Roof collapses in various locations led to the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to many others.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, and both North and South Waziristan, residents continued to endure heavy rainfall. In Mardan, the deputy commissioner conducted an inspection of relief and drainage efforts within the city. Shahid Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC), provided updates to officials regarding the ongoing drainage operations. The deputy commissioner stated that all relevant departments had been put on high alert. In Jalalah, a house’s roof collapsed during the rain, resulting in one fatality and two injuries, as reported by rescue teams.
In the region of Gilgit-Baltistan, which is under Pakistani administration, authorities have issued warnings regarding additional rainfall expected to commence on Saturday. Hotels situated along the banks of the Gilgit River have been closed, and schools in proximity to the river will remain closed on Monday due to concerns over rising water levels.
Punjab has also experienced significant rainfall across various districts, including Gujarat, Kamalia, Gojra, Toba Tek Singh, Kot Addu, Bhalwal, and Miani.
Rainfall has also affected Chiniot, Chichawatni, and the adjacent areas, as well as Hafizabad.
In the Bagh district of Azad Kashmir, landslides caused by the rain have damaged two houses and a mosque, although no casualties have been reported.
Nikyal has seen continuous rainfall, while Samahni and nearby villages have been impacted by thunderstorms and flash floods in local streams.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert, cautioning about the likelihood of more extensive and severe rainfall throughout much of the country until August 30.
