On Friday, Russia initiated a significant assault on Ukraine, resulting in the death of a seven-year-old child, as reported by the head of the military administration in the southeastern region. “This is tragic news. A 7-year-old boy, who sustained injuries during a nighttime Russian attack, has succumbed in the hospital,” stated Ivan Fedorov on the Telegram platform. The Ukrainian air force reported, “The capital is currently facing an enemy ballistic missile attack alongside a large-scale assault by enemy strike drones,” urging residents of Kyiv to stay in shelters. Mayor Vitali Klitschko indicated that Russian forces had targeted “critical infrastructure,” resulting in injuries to at least nine individuals, five of whom required hospitalization. “The left bank of the capital is experiencing power outages. Additionally, there are issues with the water supply,” Klitschko mentioned on the Telegram platform.

The Ukrainian energy minister, Svitlana Grynchuk, reported that Russian forces were “carrying out a significant strike” on the energy grid. “Energy workers are implementing all necessary measures to mitigate the adverse effects,” Grynchuk stated on Facebook. “Once security conditions permit, energy workers will commence assessing the impact of the attack and initiating restoration efforts,” she further noted. Additionally, Russia targeted the southeastern region of Zaporizhzhia with a minimum of seven drone strikes, resulting in injuries to at least three individuals, as per Ivan Fedorov, the head of the regional military administration. In recent weeks, Russia has intensified aerial assaults on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and railway systems. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky remarked on Thursday that Moscow aimed to “instigate chaos” by attacking energy facilities and railways. In retaliation, Ukraine has increased its own drone and missile strikes on Russian territory, a strategy that Zelensky indicated was yielding “results” and driving up fuel prices in Russia.
