NEW DELHI: The Punjab government has unveiled the ambitious ‘Roshan Punjab’ mission, aiming to deliver affordable, uninterrupted electricity across the state within the next year.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the initiative will end power outages, ensuring continuous supply to homes, farms, and industries. “No factory in Punjab will have to halt due to power issues. No farmer will be left in the dark,” he assured.
The state has earmarked Rs 5,000 crore for the project, marking the largest-ever investment in Punjab’s power sector. The funds will be utilized to upgrade transmission lines, repair aging infrastructure, and construct new substations to strengthen the power grid.
To secure stable electricity generation, the government has arranged a long-term coal supply from the Pachhwara mine and taken control of the GVK Thermal Plant, placing it under state supervision.
In urban areas, a campaign is underway across 13 municipal corporations to remove hanging cables, repair exposed meter boxes, and enhance public safety. Additionally, a new 180-seat call centre in Mohali has been established to boost the 1912 helpline for faster grievance resolution.
Mann emphasized that the ‘Roshan Punjab’ mission is designed to make Punjab self-sufficient in power and build the foundation for a “brighter future” for its citizens.
