New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two new corridors and lay the foundation stone for three additional routes of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on March 8, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday.

The projects are part of the ongoing expansion of the Delhi Metro network and involve an estimated investment of more than ₹18,300 crore. According to an official statement, the initiative is aimed at strengthening public transport and making daily commuting easier for residents of the capital.

During the programme, scheduled at DDA Utsav Sthal, the prime minister will inaugurate the Majlis Park–Maujpur–Babarpur section of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section of the Magenta Line.

The 12.3 km Majlis Park–Maujpur–Babarpur corridor features eight elevated stations and forms part of the existing Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar Pink Line. With this addition, the Pink Line will extend to about 71.56 km, making it the country’s first fully operational “Ring Metro,” Gupta said.

Stations along this stretch include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur.

The second project—the 9.92 km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor—is an elevated extension of the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension Magenta Line and will include seven stations: Deepali Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura-Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalswa and Majlis Park. With this extension, the Magenta Line will reach a total length of nearly 49 km.

Gupta noted that sections of this corridor rise to about 28.36 metres, making them among the highest elevated stretches in the Delhi Metro network. The Majlis Park–Maujpur–Babarpur route will also feature a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro line and a road flyover.

The prime minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase-V (A) of the metro expansion plan:

  • The 9.913 km underground Central Vista corridor from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, with stations including Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha.
  • A 2.263 km underground extension of the Golden Line from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1.
  • A 3.9 km elevated Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, with stations at Sarita Vihar Depot, Madanpur Khadar and Kalindi Kunj.

According to Gupta, the expansion will also improve connectivity for commuters from neighbouring cities such as Faridabad and Ballabhgarh, enabling easier access to the airport via the Violet Line. Passengers travelling from Noida will also benefit from better links through Kalindi Kunj and onward connections to south Delhi and the airport.

She added that the projects are expected to strengthen public transport, reduce road congestion and help curb pollution in the national capital.
