ZAGREB: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his historic visit to Croatia — the first by an Indian Prime Minister — emphasized that lasting solutions to global conflicts cannot be found on the battlefield. Following delegation-level talks with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Wednesday, Modi underscored the shared belief that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths forward, whether in Europe or Asia.
“We agree that terrorism is the enemy of humanity. It poses a threat to all democratic forces,” Modi said, amid growing international tensions, particularly the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors including defence, space, and trade. Modi announced that India and Croatia will develop a comprehensive plan to expand long-term defence collaboration, including military training programs and exchanges.
Addressing the media in a joint statement, Modi said both sides had resolved to accelerate the pace of their bilateral relationship, describing their approach as moving at “three times the current speed.” He added that this visit marks a new chapter in India-Croatia ties, with a strong focus on strategic partnership and people-to-people connections.
“Our shared commitment to peace, democracy, and global stability lays the foundation for a deeper, forward-looking partnership,” Modi stated.
