NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on a three-day visit to South Africa to attend the G20 Summit, stating that he will articulate India’s views in alignment with the principles of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—“One Earth, One Family, One Future.” In his departure statement, Modi underlined the importance of this year’s summit, noting that it is the first time the event is being hosted in Africa, following the African Union’s admission to the G20 during India’s presidency in 2023.
“The summit will provide an opportunity to deliberate on major global challenges. This year’s G20 theme—‘Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability’—builds on the outcomes of the earlier summits held in New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro. I will present India’s perspective at the summit, guided by our vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’,” the PM said.
During his visit, Modi will hold meetings with leaders from partner nations and interact with members of the Indian diaspora, one of the largest communities in South Africa.
The G20 includes the world’s major economies, accounting for 85% of global GDP, 75% of international trade, and two-thirds of the global population.
