NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to speak during the upcoming parliamentary debates on Operation Sindoor and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are set to hold extensive 16-hour discussions on the issues next week.

Although the government has not officially confirmed whether the Prime Minister will respond to the opposition’s demand for a direct address, it has pushed for the debate to take place next week, aligning with Modi’s return from a four-day overseas visit that began on Wednesday.

A senior BJP leader indicated that the Prime Minister might use the platform to present the government’s firm stance on terrorism and related matters. “The PM may choose the occasion to convey his government’s strong response to the terror attack and clarify its position on several key issues,” the leader said, noting that the debate — particularly regarding tensions with Pakistan — will draw both national and international attention.

During the opening day of the monsoon session on Monday, Modi had already hinted at the government’s firm approach, calling India’s retaliation against terrorist camps inside Pakistan a “100% success,” setting the tone for the upcoming discussions.

According to sources, the Lok Sabha is expected to begin the debate on July 28, with the Rajya Sabha following on July 29 — provided proceedings remain undisrupted. The Lok Sabha’s Business Advisory Committee agreed to the 16-hour discussion on July 21, while a similar consensus was reached in the Rajya Sabha’s committee meeting held on Wednesday.

Congress deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Pramod Tiwari, who was present at the meeting, stated, “We have demanded the Prime Minister’s presence during the debate, and the government has assured us of it.”
