NEW DELHI: Pakistan’s information minister, Attaullah Tarar, asserted late Tuesday that the country has “credible intelligence” indicating that India plans to launch a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours.
Tarar strongly rejected what he described as India’s “self-assumed hubristic role of judge, jury, and executioner” in the region, calling it “reckless.” He stated that Pakistan had received credible intelligence suggesting that India would carry out military action against Pakistan, based on what he called “baseless and concocted allegations” related to the Pahalgam incident.
“We vehemently reject India’s self-assumed hubristic role. Pakistan has been a victim of terrorism and fully understands the suffering it causes. We condemn terrorism in all its forms and wherever it occurs,” Tarar declared.
He further emphasized that Pakistan would respond “assuredly and decisively” to any military aggression by India. He also called on the international community to recognize that any escalation and its consequences would be the sole responsibility of India.
Earlier, Pakistan’s defense minister, Khawaja Asif, also warned of an “imminent” Indian incursion, confirming that Pakistan had heightened its military alertness in response. “We have reinforced our forces because this situation is now imminent, and strategic decisions have been made,” Asif told Reuters.
This claim follows India’s preparations to take decisive action against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, which continues to threaten stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22, killed 26 people, mostly tourists, including one Nepalese national, at Baisaran meadow. This assault was one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel.
