NEW DELHI: A terrorist was killed in an ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir. The gunfight, which began on Friday evening, involves a coordinated effort by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF.

The Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the development on social media, stating, “One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues.”

According to officials, the joint operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the region. As the search team approached the suspected hideout, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange.

“The troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact,” Chinar Corps said in another post on X, noting that intense and intermittent gunfire continued throughout the night.

The security operation, dubbed ‘Operation Akhal’, remains underway as forces continue to comb the area for any remaining militants.
