ATLANTA: A shooting near Emory University’s Atlanta campus — home to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — left one person dead and a police officer injured on Friday.

The incident began around 4:50 pm at the CVS in Emory Point on Clifton Road. The university issued an “active shooter” alert urging people to “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” and avoid the area. Witnesses reported multiple gunshots, and aerial footage showed damaged police vehicles at the scene.

Authorities found the suspected gunman on the CVS’s second floor with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead on site. Officials said the assailant also fired at windows of the CDC building during the attack. The injured officer was taken for treatment.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp linked the shooting to another deadly incident earlier in the week, praising first responders for “rushing toward danger to save lives” and urging prayers for the victims. Nearby business staff described the gunfire as sounding like “fireworks… one right after the other.”
