PATNA: In a significant pre-election move, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that domestic electricity consumers will receive up to 125 units of power free of cost starting August 1, 2025. The scheme is expected to benefit approximately 1.67 crore households across the state.
Making the announcement on social media platform X, Kumar stated, “We have always ensured affordable electricity for all. Now, from August 1—based on July’s bill—domestic consumers will not be charged for up to 125 units of electricity. This initiative will directly benefit 1 crore 67 lakh families in Bihar.”
Looking ahead, the CM also unveiled an ambitious solar energy initiative. “Over the next three years, with the consent of these households, solar power plants will be installed on rooftops or nearby public spaces to provide them long-term benefits,” he said.
Kumar further added that under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will cover the entire cost of solar installations for the poorest families, while offering financial support to others opting into the program.
The twin announcements aim to reduce household energy costs, promote clean energy adoption, and boost Nitish Kumar’s welfare-driven image ahead of the state assembly elections later this year.
