A Singapore-flagged container vessel, CMA CGM San Diego, berthed at berth No. 4 of the Yongzhou Container Terminal at Ningbo Zhoushan Port on January 1, 2026, becoming the port’s first “mega” container ship of the year, according to Zhejiang Online.

The vessel is 328 meters long with a deadweight tonnage exceeding 117,000 tonnes and is scheduled to remain at the port for 15 hours, during which about 2,000 standard containers will be loaded and unloaded.

In response to risks linked to cold waves, strong winds and other adverse weather conditions at the start of the year, maritime authorities strengthened real-time monitoring and early warning of meteorological and sea conditions, promptly issuing alerts to the ship, the port and agent companies, and urging the implementation of safety measures including vessel stability checks and reinforcement of mooring equipment.

Data show that in 2025 the Yongzhou Container Terminal handled an annual container throughput of 3.882 million TEUs, up 45.6% year on year, while the number of vessel calls reached 4,131, an increase of 27%, with both indicators posting strong growth.

The Zhoushan Maritime Safety Administration said it would continue to optimize maritime supervision and services, advance digital transformation and improve multi-agency coordination to support steady growth in port throughput.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port is a comprehensive port complex located in Zhejiang province, China, integrating multiple deep-water port areas and providing cargo handling, logistics and related port services for domestic and international shipping routes.
