KATHMANDU: A judicial commission probing the deadly suppression of the recent “Gen Z” protests in Nepal has recommended seizing the passports of deposed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and four others.
The panel also directed Oli, former home minister Ramesh Lekhak, and others under investigation to seek permission before leaving Kathmandu, according to commission member Bigyan Raj Sharma. The measures are intended to ensure accountability as inquiries proceed.
The move comes a day after Oli denied ordering police to open fire on demonstrators. At least 19 protesters were killed on September 8, the first day of the youth-led demonstrations, which ultimately led to Oli’s ouster the following day. The death toll climbed to 75 over two days of unrest.
