NEW DELHI: A 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar near the India border early Tuesday, sending tremors across Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The quake occurred at 6:10 am, with its epicentre about 27 km southeast of Ukhrul in Manipur at a depth of 15 km (latitude 24.73°N, longitude 94.63°E). The location was roughly 155 km south-southeast of Wokha in Nagaland, 159 km southeast of Dimapur, 177 km south of Mokokchung, 171 km northeast of Ngopa in Mizoram, and 193 km northeast of Champhai.

The Myanmar tremor followed two smaller quakes recorded earlier in the day. At 12:09 am, a 3.4 magnitude quake struck Maharashtra’s Satara district at a shallow depth of 5 km, around 91 km northwest of Kolhapur. Later, at 4:28 am, Tibet experienced a 3.3 magnitude quake, with its epicentre 227 km north of Arunachal Pradesh’s Pangin and 303 km north of Assam’s Dibrugarh, at a depth of 10 km, NCS data showed.
