MUMBAI: In two separate incidents over the past fortnight, commuters were booked for impersonating government officials and using fake documents to travel illegally on the Harbour line. FIRs were registered by the Wadala Government Railway Police following complaints from ticket checkers of Central Railway.

In the most recent case on December 30, a ticket checker inspecting first-class coaches of a CSMT-bound local around 1.20 pm questioned an elderly passenger at GTB Nagar station. The man claimed to be a government employee and produced a plastic identity card bearing the name Badruddin Khan, marked “CBI,” along with “Govt of India” and an official seal. Suspecting forgery, the ticket checker sought additional proof, but the commuter said he was on a “special task” and could not share details. On further questioning, he admitted to posing as a Central Bureau of Investigation official. The documents were found to be fake, and the Govandi resident was handed over to the GRP.

In another incident on December 22, a ticket examiner checking passes on a foot overbridge at Wadala station stopped a passenger who claimed to be a railway employee. The identity card he wore mentioned “Govt of India” and East Central Railway, Danapur division, identifying him as Amol Godale, a “senior personnel officer” from Bhabua station, with an address in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. When asked to provide further employment details, Godale failed to do so satisfactorily.

He was subsequently handed over to the Wadala GRP, where a case was registered after the documents were found to be bogus.
