NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to make a statement in the Lok Sabha on Monday regarding the evolving situation in West Asia, as regional tensions continue to escalate amid the ongoing conflict in the Gulf.
Jaishankar will brief Members of Parliament on recent developments in the region and outline India’s position on the crisis. His statement is also expected to cover the government’s diplomatic outreach and measures being taken to ensure the safety of Indian nationals living and working in West Asian countries.
The address comes at a time when tensions across West Asia have intensified due to missile and drone exchanges in the Gulf region, raising fears of a broader escalation. The conflict has triggered global concerns over its potential impact on energy markets, regional stability and the safety of expatriate populations.
India has been closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.
Jaishankar recently stated that New Delhi is maintaining “very close contact” with governments across the region while prioritising the safety and well-being of Indian citizens. He added that the government is carefully assessing developments and remains prepared to take necessary steps should the security situation worsen.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also been coordinating with Indian missions across West Asia to closely track developments on the ground and provide assistance to citizens if required.
Earlier, Jaishankar had emphasised India’s broader diplomatic approach to the crisis, calling for restraint and dialogue among the parties involved. He warned that further escalation could destabilise an already fragile region and have far-reaching global consequences.
