AHMEDABAD: In a bizarre burglary that unfolded with unusual politeness, four men allegedly robbed a 76-year-old woman at her home in Sevalia village of Kheda district after calmly seeking her cooperation and tying her up before leaving with cash and jewellery worth about Rs 65,000.

The incident occurred around 11pm on January 10 at the woman’s bungalow in MD Bungalows Society near the ACC company premises in Galteshwar taluka. She filed a complaint with Sevalia police the following morning.

According to the FIR, the elderly woman, who lives alone with a watchman posted outside, had gone to bed after dinner when she was awakened by a man standing near her. She then noticed two men beside her and two sitting near her feet. One covered her mouth and asked her not to raise an alarm. The men reportedly requested permission before tying her hands and legs with her dupattas.

Police said the robbery was carried out calmly, without threats or shouting. The men asked her where valuables were kept. Out of fear, she pointed to a drawer containing cupboard keys and Rs 15,000 in cash for daily expenses. When asked about jewellery, she initially said there was none. However, after one of the men noticed a gold ring on her finger, she removed it and handed it over.

The suspects searched cupboards and drawers but found nothing else of value. Before leaving, they loosened the cloth binding her hands and warned her not to make noise, telling her she could untie her feet after they had left the house.

The woman was unharmed and remained indoors until morning, when she informed the watchman. Police believe the intruders entered through a dining room window after breaking the mosquito mesh.

According to police, the robbers escaped with Rs 15,000 in cash and a gold ring weighing about 4 grams, together valued at approximately Rs 65,000.

Sevalia police have registered a case of house trespass and robbery and are examining nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
