BENGALURU: A major drug bust in Mangaluru has sparked concerns over security lapses at New Delhi airport, with legislators suggesting that narcotics are entering Karnataka with possible insider involvement.
During a legislative session commending Mangaluru police for their successful crackdown on drug trafficking, Speaker UT Khader raised suspicions that Delhi airport serves as a key entry point for narcotics into the state.
“Earlier, Mangaluru was often blamed as the source of drugs in Karnataka, but now it is evident that the supply chain originates from New Delhi,” Khader said.
While lawmakers from various parties applauded the efforts of Karnataka and Mangaluru police following Home Minister G Parameshwara’s briefing on the arrests and seizures, concerns were raised about broader drug networks.
BJP MLA Harish Poonja (Belthangadi, Dakshina Kannada) pointed out that the operation began in Bengaluru before culminating in Mangaluru. Meanwhile, BJP state president BY Vijayendra cautioned the government about drug networks reaching taluk levels and highlighted allegations of confiscated drugs re-entering circulation through police collusion. He urged for stricter surveillance and enforcement measures to curb the menace.
