Abu Dhabi: Dr. Arayakandy Dhanalakshmi, a 54-year-old Indian expatriate and respected dental surgeon from Kannur, Kerala, was found dead at her residence in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi, on Monday night. Her untimely passing has left colleagues, friends, and the Indian community in the UAE in profound shock and sorrow.
According to reports, concerns were raised after Dr. Dhanalakshmi failed to respond to phone calls for two consecutive days and did not report to work on Monday at Lifecare Hospital, Mussafah, where she had been serving as a general dentist. Alarmed by her uncharacteristic absence, friends visited her home, where they discovered her lifeless body.
A seasoned medical professional with over two decades of experience, Dr. Dhanalakshmi had been living in the UAE for more than 10 years. She joined Lifecare Hospital in August 2024. Prior to her relocation, she practiced at the family-run Dhanalakshmi Hospital in Kannur.
A graduate of the College of Dental Sciences, MAHE University, Mangalore, she was a registered member of the Indian Dental Association and widely regarded for her professional competence and compassion.
Beyond her medical career, Dr. Dhanalakshmi was known as a gifted writer, eloquent speaker, and cultural contributor. She played an active role in Abu Dhabi’s Indian expatriate community, especially within the Malayalee diaspora. A committed member of the Abu Dhabi Malayalee Samajam, she was deeply involved in initiatives aimed at preserving cultural heritage and fostering community spirit.
Her dedication extended to public service as well—she often volunteered to lead awareness sessions on health and wellness and maintained a vibrant social media presence to connect with a broader audience.
Her sudden passing has left a void at Lifecare Hospital. In a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram, the hospital said:
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Dhanalakshmi, General Dentist at Lifecare Hospital, Mussafah. A compassionate healer, dedicated educator, and beloved member of our medical family, she touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit. Her legacy of care and community connection will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.”
Following confirmation of her death, her professional profile was removed from the hospital’s website. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the cause of death.
Personal Background
Dr. Dhanalakshmi hailed from Talap in Kannur district, Kerala. She was the daughter of the late Narayanan, who ran the Anandakrishna Bus Service, and Chandramathi. She is survived by her husband, Sujith, currently residing in Kerala, and siblings Ananda Krishnan, Shivaram, and Dr. Seethalakshmi.
