KANPUR: Police on Sunday said they had cracked the murder of a 22-year-old man whose torso was found in the Ganga, arresting four suspects while four others remain on the run.

The victim, identified as Rishikesh, was allegedly killed over his relationship with the sister of the prime accused, Pawan Nishad. According to police, Pawan had repeatedly warned Rishikesh to stay away from her, but the youth ignored the threats.

On Friday, Pawan and his associates lured Rishikesh to Kakori forest, where they slit his throat. His body was then dismembered, and the parts were transported in bags using an e-rickshaw. The accused allegedly dumped the remains from a bridge into the Ganga, about six kilometres from the crime scene.

Rishikesh’s torso was recovered 22 km downstream in Maharajpur on Sunday. His brother, Ravi Kumar, had lodged a murder complaint against Pawan, his brother Bobby, and several associates after Rishikesh went missing.

DCP (East) Satyajit Gupta said the arrested suspects—Mogli alias Prince, Nikhil, Akash alias Aloo, and Rishu Verma—confessed to the crime. The main accused, Pawan, along with Bobby, Satyam, and Danny, are still absconding.
