Thiruvananthapuram: Jewellery valued at over ₹2 crore has allegedly gone missing from Kowdiar Palace, the official residence of the Travancore royal family. Following a complaint by senior family member Aswathi Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bai, the Kerala Police registered a theft case at Peroorkada Police Station.

According to the complaint, the ornaments were kept in an iron cupboard in the complainant’s bedroom and are believed to have been stolen sometime between October and November 2025. The family initially assumed the jewellery had simply been misplaced.

The missing items reportedly include gold chains set with orange coral beads and gold pearls, anklets designed in the traditional “pichipoo mottu” pattern, and ornaments studded with black and gold beads.

Investigators suspect the theft may have been carried out by individuals familiar with the palace premises. Police also noted that videos showing the palace interiors had surfaced on social media, raising the possibility that outsiders may have gained access to the property.
