BENGALURU: Madanayakanahalli police have arrested 21-year-old Prem Vardhan in Tirupati for the murder of his friend Devisri, a BBM student from Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district. The incident occurred on Sunday in a rented room belonging to one of her friends in Thammenahalli, north Bengaluru.

According to police, Prem allegedly attacked Devisri after an argument. He then fled the scene, took the Metro to Majestic and boarded a bus to Tirupati.

Investigators identified him as the primary suspect based on statements from friends and neighbours. Although he had switched off his phone, police tracked his movements using brief mobile signal activity and CCTV footage. A team led by chief inspector Muralidhar coordinated with Tirupati authorities while monitoring tower locations.

Prem attempted to evade detection by shaving his head and offering his hair at a temple. However, his mobile activity eventually revealed his location, enabling police to arrest him.

During interrogation, Prem confessed to committing the crime out of jealousy over Devisri’s friendship with another man.
