INDORE: An 11-year-old Class VI student died of a suspected cardiac arrest while playing at her school in Betma, Indore district, on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the girl, identified as Lakshita Patel, suddenly felt fatigued during sports class, sat down, and collapsed moments later. Teachers immediately alerted the sports instructor, who rushed her to Betma Hospital. She was later referred to Choithram Hospital in Indore, where doctors declared her dead around 5 p.m.

Dr. Anil Kumar Lakhwani, deputy director of health services at Choithram Hospital, confirmed she had already died when brought in. “Doctors tried to revive the girl, but she could not be saved,” he said, adding that police were informed.

The body was later sent for postmortem at the district hospital before being handed over to her family. Neighbours said Lakshita’s father works in a private company, while her mother is a homemaker.

Locals noted that while there was no family history of cardiac illness, Lakshita weighed 74 kg, unusually high for her age, which may have contributed to the medical emergency.

Her sudden death has left classmates and teachers in shock, while family and friends are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
