NEW DELHI: The Indian passport has strengthened its global standing, rising eight spots to rank 77th in the Henley Passport Index 2025. Indian citizens now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 59 destinations worldwide.

This upward move follows a decline last year, when India dropped five positions in the 2024 index. The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 countries based on the number of destinations their citizens can visit without obtaining a visa in advance.

The inclusion of the Philippines and Sri Lanka as new visa-free or VoA destinations for Indian passport holders contributed to the improved ranking. India was ranked 85th in 2024 and 80th in 2023.

Popular destinations offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Indian travelers include Malaysia, Indonesia, Maldives, and Thailand.
