Hyderabad: A family outing turned tragic on the outskirts of Hyderabad when a 10-year-old girl and her 20-year-old cousin drowned in Indhira Sagar Cheruvu near Abdullapurmet on Saturday evening.
The victims have been identified as Pranitha, a Class VI student, and her cousin Chintam Reddy Indhra Sena Reddy, a final-year degree student.
According to Abdullapurmet police, the incident occurred when Chinapu Prathap Reddy (35), a resident of Laxmi Priya Colony, was visiting a nearby development site with his family and relatives. While playing near the lake, Pranitha accidentally slipped from a rock and fell into the water.
Seeing her struggle, Indhra Sena Reddy immediately jumped in to rescue her. Tragically, both drowned before help could arrive.
Family members and locals raised an alarm, and police were alerted. Rescue operations were launched, and both bodies were recovered from the lake on Sunday.
A case has been registered based on the family’s complaint, and further inquiries are ongoing. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the family and local community.
