Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, joined people across the state in celebrating Holi on Wednesday, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting folk culture, faith and development.

This year’s celebrations, he said, were not just about colours but also reflected the cultural heritage, spiritual traditions and developmental progress of the state.

A Holi Milan event held at the chief minister’s residence in Dehradun offered a glimpse of Uttarakhand’s rich folk traditions. Artists from different regions—including Garhwal, Kumaon, Jaunsar and the Terai—performed traditional dances and songs, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, artists from the Jaunsar region presented the traditional Harul dance, while Holyar groups from Kumaon performed folk Holi songs. The beats of drums, manjira and other traditional instruments echoed through the venue, celebrating the state’s cultural heritage.

Dhami also joined the performers during the event, dancing with folk artists, playing traditional instruments and participating in the festivities. The occasion, officials said, reflected the government’s commitment to preserving local art forms and cultural traditions.

As part of Holi greetings, the chief minister also visited former Uttarakhand chief ministers Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Trivendra Singh Rawat at their residences.

During the festive period, Dhami also travelled to Champawat, where he inaugurated the fair at Maa Purnagiri Dham and reviewed development works in the temple area. He said facilities such as parking, drinking water and crowd management are being upgraded to improve convenience for devotees.

The chief minister also attended the Kali Kumaon Holi Rang Mahotsav and a Holi Milan programme in Lohaghat, where he interacted with residents amid traditional music and festivities.

Another Holi Milan event in Khatima drew large crowds, with residents gathering to celebrate the festival with the chief minister. The celebrations featured traditional drumbeats, vibrant colours and enthusiastic participation from the public.

Addressing the gatherings, Dhami said the state government is committed to protecting and promoting Sanatan culture and strengthening religious centres. Preserving the cultural identity and heritage of “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand,” he added, remains a top priority for the government.

He noted that the Holi events across the state symbolised harmony between faith, culture and development, while also reflecting public support and participation in the state’s progress.
