Dhaka: Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, was sentenced to 21 years in prison by the special judge court on Thursday, in connection with three cases related to the Purbachal plot scam in Dhaka. Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, each received five-year prison sentences in one of these cases. According to the anti-corruption commission, Hasina, in collusion with senior officials from the urban development authority Rajuk, unlawfully acquired six plots, each measuring 10 kathas, located in the diplomatic zone of Sector 27 of the Purbachal New Town project. The commission claimed that the former Prime Minister obtained these plots for herself and her family members. In a related development, Saiful Islam Sarkar, a former officer of the housing and public works ministry, was acquitted in three of the cases.
