NEW DELHI: In a chilling case from Gurugram, police have arrested five individuals — including a woman and her neighbour — for allegedly murdering her husband and burying his body in a pre-dug pit. The victim, Vikram (37), was a resident of Dundahera village and originally from Nawada, Bihar.

According to investigators, Vikram’s wife, Soni Devi (35), conspired with her neighbour and alleged lover, Ravindra (34), to carry out the murder after their affair was discovered. The crime was reportedly triggered when Soni Devi’s daughter found an explicit video of her mother and Ravindra on his phone and informed Vikram.

Following the revelation, Soni and Ravindra allegedly began researching ways to kill Vikram, watching YouTube videos and other online content to plan the murder and disposal of the body.

Initially, Soni Devi tried to mislead authorities by filing a missing person’s complaint for Vikram on July 28 at the Udyog Vihar police station. Days later, on July 31, she filed another complaint accusing Ravindra of raping her in March, while Vikram was away on work. She claimed Ravindra had recorded the assault and threatened to release the video if she spoke out.

However, police investigations quickly pointed to her involvement. Ravindra was taken into custody and reportedly confessed to the crime. He told police that on July 26, he and two accomplices — Manish (19) and Fariyaad (20) — intercepted Vikram as he returned home from work. They dragged him into a vehicle, strangled him with a rope, and buried his body near Mohammadpur Jharsa village.

Ravindra’s 60-year-old uncle, Santarpal, was also arrested for helping conceal the body. Police say he had dug the burial pit in advance, following Ravindra’s instructions. He was remanded to five days’ police custody on Sunday, while the other three male suspects were remanded the previous day. Soni Devi has been placed in judicial custody.

According to a police spokesperson, Soni and Ravindra maintained regular phone contact throughout the planning and execution of the murder. “To throw investigators off track, Soni Devi filed a missing report despite knowing her husband had already been killed and buried. We are continuing to question all accused,” the spokesperson said.

Police recovered Vikram’s body from the burial site based on Ravindra’s statements. The case has raised serious concerns about the premeditated nature of the crime and the alleged use of digital platforms to plan a murder.
