The vessel Grande Svezia, owned and operated by global Ro-Ro leader Grimaldi Group, successfully berthed at the OCT-2 berth, ICTPL at Mumbai Port on 3 December 2025, marking a significant milestone in Ro-Ro project cargo operations.
On her second voyage since delivery in September 2025, the vessel discharged an extraordinary 2,196 cargo units (rolling freight and spares), totalling over 15,000 metric tons and over 30,000 CBM of project cargo. The vessel was handled by Oasis Shipping Private limited (a Samsara Group Company), as Grimaldi Group’s agent.
This operation represents a record-scale handling of project cargo at Mumbai Port, establishing a new benchmark for efficiency and capability not only in the port but also in India.
Since February 2025, Naples-based Grimaldi Group has been calling regularly at the Port of Mumbai within its Asia–Europe service. More specifically, Mumbai is served once a month by vessels sailing from Europe toward the Persian Gulf.
Cargo shipped from Europe to Mumbai consists mainly of new vehicles, and also includes other rolling units such as buses, wheel loaders, and trucks.
In recent months, the Group has also carried out westbound calls at Mumbai, with vessels arriving from Asia. This has enabled direct connections between China and India as part of the Group’s East Asia – Persian Gulf service. The Mumbai call of the Grande Svezia in early December falls within this service framework.
Looking ahead, the Grimaldi Group aims to strengthen its presence in India and increase the frequency of its services to and from the country.
