Chennai: An unidentified man kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl on Monday as she was making her way home from school in Gummidipoondi.
Using CCTV footage in the neighborhood, police have started looking for the suspect. According to police sources, the Class IV kid who survived later sounded an alarm, which prompted the man to leave the area.
The man who had been pursuing her gagged and pulled her into the bushes on a desolate stretch of road. The youngster ran home after making her getaway and told her grandma, who then reported her to the local police station.
For a medical evaluation, the survivor was brought to a hospital. According to authorities, special teams have been established to track for the perpetrator. A case has been filed under the Pocso Act in light of the girl’s statement.
