Mumbai: A 30-year-old man, Darshit Seth, died by suicide on Tuesday evening after jumping off the bow-string arch bridge that connects the Mumbai Coastal Road and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. His body was recovered on Wednesday, marking the first suicide on the newly built coastal road, police said.
Seth, a Malad resident who worked at a private firm in BKC, had been married for four months. “On Tuesday, he called his family to inform them that he would be late. He then drove onto the arch bridge, stepped out of his car, waited for two minutes, left his phone inside the vehicle, and jumped into the sea,” an officer reported. No suicide note was found.
At 7:45 p.m., two coastal road marshals noticed Seth’s stationary car with its indicators on. CCTV footage later confirmed that he had jumped into the sea. A search operation involving the Navy, Coast Guard, and local fishermen was launched. On Wednesday, his body was found floating near the Sea Link’s landing point bridge.
The Worli police have registered an accidental death case.
