THANE: A criminal case has been registered against a female doctor at a private hospital in Manpada following the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child in February 2022. The Thane city police initiated the action based on findings from a detailed investigation.

The woman, a resident of Ghodbunder, was admitted to the hospital on February 9, 2022, and received treatment until late afternoon. Doctors later advised her family to shift her to the Thane Municipal Corporation-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital. Tragically, both the woman and the fetus died shortly after the transfer.

The woman’s husband had lodged a complaint with the Kasarvadavli police, alleging medical negligence and inadequate treatment at the private facility. The case prompted a formal inquiry, and the Thane District Government Hospital was tasked with reviewing the treatment procedures followed by the private hospital.

According to officials, the report revealed significant lapses in medical care. “The report indicated that timely and proper medical intervention could have potentially saved both lives,” a police officer stated.

Though the woman’s husband passed away last year, the investigation continued. This week, the Kasarvadavli police summoned her father to share the findings and move the case forward.
