Gurgaon: A four-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her father in Faridabad after she failed to correctly write numbers from 1 to 50. Police said the accused repeatedly struck the child with a rolling pin and slammed her onto the floor.
The accused, Krishna Jaiswal (31), was arrested on Friday after his wife filed a complaint. The incident occurred on Wednesday at their rented home in Jhadsentli, Faridabad, where the family had recently moved from Sonbhadra in Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that after assaulting the child, Jaiswal took her to hospital and told his wife, Ranjita, that their daughter had fallen down the stairs while playing, allegedly in an attempt to cover up the attack. However, the couple’s seven-year-old son, who was at home at the time, later told his mother that his sister had been beaten. Ranjita also noticed injury marks on the child’s body and alerted the police.
“The child suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead at the hospital. The accused told doctors the same story about a fall,” a police officer said.
A murder case has been registered against Jaiswal under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sector 58 police station in Faridabad. He has been taken on one-day police remand for questioning to establish the sequence of events and verify statements from family members and neighbours.
Police said both parents work for a private firm in alternating shifts — the mother during the day and the father at night. Jaiswal stayed home during the day to look after the children. The girl was not enrolled in school and was being taught at home by her father, police said.
The couple has two other children, both of whom were present in the house at the time of the incident. Police are recording statements from relatives and neighbours to reconstruct the events. “The body has been sent for post-mortem, and the cause of death will be confirmed after medical reports. Further investigation is under way,” Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal said.
