NEW DELHI: Police have seized multiple narcotics, including cocaine, LSD, methamphetamine, charas, and ganja, from the Mahindra Thar that ran over two people in Chanakyapuri on Sunday morning.

The driver, 26-year-old Ashish Bachchas of Shakarpur, was arrested at the scene after the Ghaziabad-registered SUV swerved off the road near 11 Murti around 6:30 a.m., hitting two men on a footpath before crashing into a streetlight pole. Both victims, believed to be homeless, died of their injuries; one was identified as Sujesh Kshetri from Sikkim.

A search of the heavily damaged vehicle uncovered small packets containing 0.3g of cocaine, 2.6g of LSD, 23.4g of methamphetamine, 21.2g of ganja, 4.2g of charas, nearly 15.5g of tobacco, Rs 25,000 in cash, and a mobile phone. Police said the haul qualifies as a commercial quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Initially booked for rash driving and causing death by negligence, Bachchas now also faces NDPS charges under Sections 20, 21, 22, and 25. Investigators are probing whether he was a drug peddler and examining reports that he may have been returning from a party in Gurgaon.
