NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian amid the escalating crisis in the Middle East.

In a post on social media platform X, Modi said he conveyed India’s “deep concern” over rising tensions in the region and reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and stability.

“Had a conversation with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the serious situation in the region. Expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives, as well as damage to civilian infrastructure,” Modi said.

He emphasised that the safety and security of Indian nationals in the region remains a key priority for India. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of goods and energy supplies.

“The safety and security of Indian nationals, along with the need for unhindered transit of goods and energy, remain India’s top priorities. Reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability and urged dialogue and diplomacy,” he added.
