A tragic fire at a nursing home in northern China has left at least 20 people dead, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency. The blaze erupted around 9:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday at a care facility in Longhua County, Hebei province, approximately 180 kilometers from Beijing.

Emergency crews managed to bring the fire under control, but not before it claimed multiple lives. By 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, authorities confirmed 20 fatalities.

Several other residents were evacuated and taken to nearby hospitals for medical assessment and treatment. Their conditions are currently being monitored.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and a formal investigation is underway to determine how the incident occurred.
