MOHALI: In a heartbreaking development, the 21-year-old daughter of a close aide to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa has been found dead under suspicious circumstances in Canada.
Vanshika Saini, daughter of Davinder Saini, had been pursuing higher education in Ottawa for the past two and a half years. Family sources said Vanshika had moved to Canada after completing her Class XII exams to enroll in a two-year diploma program. She had recently completed her final examinations on April 18 and had begun working part-time.
On April 22, Vanshika left for her workplace but never returned. Concern grew as her phone remained switched off, and friends and family were unable to reach her. She was also scheduled to take her IELTS exam on April 25. When her friends went to check on her after she failed to appear for the test, they realized she had been missing for three days. They immediately alerted local authorities and mobilized support from the Indian community in Ottawa.
The search ended in tragedy when Vanshika’s body was discovered on a beach near Ottawa. The exact cause of death remains unknown, and Canadian authorities have launched an investigation. However, her family in India has alleged foul play, insisting that Vanshika was murdered.
Speaking to the media, Davinder Saini recalled his last conversation with his daughter on April 22 and said he initially assumed she was busy preparing for her exam when he could not reach her later that day.
The family is now urging Canadian officials to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation. News of Vanshika’s death has sent shockwaves through Dera Bassi, with many expressing grief and demanding justice for the young student.
