Security forces on Monday recovered an abandoned drone from a field near the Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, while ammunition for an AK-series rifle was found scattered in a separate incident in Udhampur district, more than 270 km away.

Officials said the drone was seized from a field in Gohled village near the Mendhar sector after police received specific inputs. While clarifying that the device was not military-grade and resembled commercially available drones commonly used for photography at social events, authorities said its proximity to the border raised security concerns.

“The Special Operations Group of J&K Police acted on an input and recovered the drone from a field belonging to one Mohd Shafiq,” an official said, adding that the matter was being investigated.

In another incident, security forces recovered seven rounds of ammunition from magazines compatible with an AK-series rifle from an open field in Sudhmahadev village of the Chenani area in Udhampur district during a search operation. Officials said a probe was underway and no arrests had been made so far.

Separately, in Jammu’s Pragwal area, an aircraft-shaped balloon bearing the marking “PIA,” believed to refer to Pakistan International Airlines, was seized from the border village of Gurah Manhasa.

In a fourth incident, police arrested a man during a routine check at Barmini on the outskirts of Jammu city. The accused, identified as Sahil Singh, was allegedly travelling in a Scorpio vehicle and found in possession of an illegal 12-bore firearm and two cartridges. Further investigation is in progress, police said.
