The Delhi government has initiated plans to redevelop 17 slum settlements across Seelampur, Sultanpuri and Lajpat Nagar, covering 4,870 shanties, into three high-rise residential colonies under its new slum rehabilitation policy.

Under the Delhi Slum and Jhuggi Jhopri Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, private developers will construct housing for eligible residents in exchange for commercial development rights over portions of the land.

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) will appoint a private agency to conduct feasibility studies and prepare conceptual plans, including construction costs, housing capacity, parking and amenities.

The proposed projects include four settlements in Seelampur with 1,243 shanties, nine in Sultanpuri with 1,997 and four in Lajpat Nagar with 1,630.

The initiative follows earlier public-private partnership redevelopment projects in Kathputli Colony, Kalkaji and Ashok Vihar. The new policy aims to expand private participation in slum rehabilitation through mixed-use development.
