A man from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, who travelled to Russia for employment, has allegedly been deceived into joining the Russian Army and deployed towards the Ukraine front, prompting his mother to seek government intervention for his safe return.

J Appalakonda said her son, J Vamsi, went to Russia for fruit-packing work but was allegedly recruited through a Nepali national who promised him employment. She appealed to the Centre and Andhra Pradesh government to bring him home.

In a video message, Vamsi and four other Indians claimed they were misled into joining the Russian Army, made to sign documents in Russian and subsequently sent towards frontline areas.

They also alleged they were told they had acquired Russian citizenship without understanding the process and expressed fear for their lives.

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh said his office would coordinate with the concerned authorities to facilitate the stranded Indians’ safe and speedy return.
