Authorities in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district seized 22,138 liters of suspected adulterated ghee worth approximately ₹1.60 crore and arrested three people during raids at two establishments ahead of Diwali.
The joint operation involving the CID Crime Branch, local police and food safety officials also recovered ₹3.50 lakh in suspected proceeds from sales.
At Ananya Trading Company’s warehouse and factory, officials seized 16,394 liters of ghee allegedly packed under multiple brand names. Expired ghee, unlabeled containers, packaging materials, stickers and machinery were also recovered.
Preliminary investigations suggest expired and returned ghee was repackaged with fresh labels and sold in the market. Investigators also suspect palm oil and vanaspati were used to prepare adulterated products.
The premises have been sealed, and samples have been sent for laboratory testing. Further action will depend on the findings.
The arrests are part of a statewide crackdown on food adulteration ahead of the festive season.
