The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is planning a crackdown on illegal and unauthorised constructions on its land across Mumbai, with action expected to begin after Diwali.

The proposed demolition drive will target areas including SVP Nagar in Andheri West, Motilal Nagar and Siddharth Nagar in Goregaon West, Anand Nagar in Vakola, Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli East, and Gorai and Charkop in Borivali West.

MHADA’s Encroachment Removal Department will conduct the drive, while officials are examining cases and preparing legal proceedings against developers and individuals repeatedly involved in unauthorised construction.

Action will be taken under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, with criminal cases also possible where evidence warrants.

The crackdown comes amid ongoing redevelopment plans across several MHADA colonies, where residents have raised objections and some housing societies have challenged the authority’s decisions in court.
