Three unidentified armed men opened fire on a former Patna municipal councillor as he sat in the basement of his home on Tuesday evening. The shooting took place around 7:30 pm in the Buddha Colony police station area.

The injured man was identified as Anil Yadav, husband of the sitting councillor for municipal ward number 24. “Police received information that Yadav was shot at by three armed assailants when he was sitting inside the basement of his house,” said Krishna Murari Prasad, SDPO-1 (Law and Order).

The attackers fled the scene after the shooting, police said. Yadav was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. “The miscreants fled the spot thereafter. Yadav has been admitted to a private hospital. Initial reports suggest that he suffered multiple bullet injuries. The matter is being investigated and a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits,” Prasad added.

RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav and Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor visited the hospital to check on Yadav’s condition. Speaking to reporters, Kishor alleged a complete breakdown of law and order in Bihar, describing the situation in the state as total “jungleraj.”
