Police say a 31-year-old human resources professional was murdered after travelling to Gurgaon to meet a former colleague — a trip that ended in his family reporting him missing.

Delhi Police have arrested the ex-colleague, identified as Anya Vats, along with her partner Sanyam Sachdeva, in connection with the killing of Yuvraj Singh Manchanda. Investigators believe a dispute over money may have triggered the attack.

The arrested pair

Anya and Sanyam, both residents of Gurgaon, reportedly told investigators they are married with a one-year-old son. Reports suggest Yuvraj was shot twice while inside his own vehicle, though police are still confirming these specifics.

Yuvraj had been living with his family in Sarita Vihar and was employed at a well-known real estate firm. Police noted that Anya had previously worked alongside him in 2022 at a different major real estate company, but was unemployed at the time of the incident, having been dismissed from that earlier job — reportedly over suspected financial misconduct, a detail still being confirmed. Sanyam was also without employment, according to police.

Altercation preceded the killing

Sources indicate a dispute broke out inside Yuvraj’s car shortly before he was killed. The couple allegedly admitted to keeping his body in the vehicle for roughly seven hours while deciding how to dispose of it, before eventually dumping it in a sewer close to their residence and fleeing to Uttarakhand.

Timeline: from shopping trip to disappearance

Yuvraj had been unreachable since September 6, though his family didn’t file a report until September 11. On the day he vanished, he’d spent the afternoon shopping with his sisters before the group stopped at a Lajpat Nagar restaurant around 4pm. He mentioned having a meeting in Gurgaon, sent his sisters home by cab, and headed there alone.

A phone call around 7pm was the last contact — he told relatives he’d return by 10pm. His phone then went dark, and despite the family’s efforts to reach him, nothing worked. His sister eventually filed a missing-persons report with Lajpat Nagar police on September 11.

Investigators trace the trail to Anya

By reviewing call logs, IP data, and CCTV footage, police established that Yuvraj’s last conversation was with Anya, and that he had told his family the Gurgaon trip was to see her. With both of their phones off, investigators zeroed in on tracking her whereabouts, and she quickly became the primary suspect.

A new number linked to Anya was eventually detected, with technical tracking placing her in Uttarakhand. A police team travelled there and took her and Sanyam into custody.

Confession and body recovery

According to police, the couple confessed to their roles in the murder and revealed they had disposed of the body in a drain near their Gurgaon home. This information led officers to Badshahpur police station, where an unidentified, severely decomposed body had already been recovered from a drain on September 10. When shown photographs of the remains, Yuvraj’s family confirmed his identity.

What comes next

Both suspects have been remanded to five days of police custody following their court appearance. Investigators continue examining the alleged financial motive, the precise involvement of each accused, and are gathering forensic and technical evidence as the case proceeds.
