Chilling details have emerged in the Gurgaon road collision involving a biker, with police alleging that the car driver deliberately rammed into her motorcycle with the intention of killing her.

Kalyan Bainsla, 33, who allegedly struck biker Shivani Chauhan, 27, with his car on Golf Course Road on Sunday morning, was arrested in Rajasthan’s Dausa on Tuesday. His cousin Lovneesh, 32, who was travelling with him in the Maruti Ciaz at the time of the incident, was also arrested.

The incident came to light after Shivani uploaded footage from a camera mounted on her Aprilia RS 457. The video showed the car repeatedly attempting to move alongside her motorcycle before hitting it near the Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station. The impact sent Chauhan and her bike sliding across the road as vehicles continued speeding past her.

After reviewing the footage, police added an attempt-to-murder charge to the FIR against Kalyan Bainsla. DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the collision appeared to have been intentional.

“He caused the collision deliberately from the side. He had an intention to kill her,” Kumar said.

The officer said the additional charge was based on the evidence available to investigators and was not the result of public or media pressure. He added that Shivani escaped fatal injuries, with her safety gear playing an important role in protecting her.

Police said Kalyan went into hiding after Shivani’s video was posted online and triggered widespread outrage. Investigators said he travelled into Rajasthan with Lovneesh and even visited Pushkar before the two were eventually apprehended near Dausa.

Kalyan had presented a different version of events on Monday. He claimed that a group of around 22-23 bikers had been riding aggressively, repeatedly overtaking his car and slowing down in front of it. According to his account, Shivani suddenly turned while he was making a U-turn, leaving him with very little time to respond.

“I tried very hard to avoid the collision,” Kalyan had said, denying that he deliberately struck Shivani. He also denied fleeing after the incident when questioned about allegations that he had ignored a signal to stop.

Police had taken suo motu cognisance of Shivani’s video on Monday and initially registered an FIR against unidentified persons under Sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to rash or negligent acts that endanger life or personal safety.

On Tuesday, the Sector 56 station house officer visited Shivani at her Delhi residence and recorded her statement. Police subsequently added BNS Sections 78 and 79, relating to physical or digital stalking and acts or words intended to insult a woman’s modesty. The attempt-to-murder provision was added later following examination of the available evidence.

Kalyan Bainsla, who runs a gym and is also involved in property dealings, describes himself as a kabaddi and rugby player. The Maruti Ciaz involved in the incident belongs to his friend Manish, an Army personnel, who had lent the vehicle to him on Friday.
