The Kremlin on Monday said Russia would continue striking targets across the ‘whole’ of Ukraine, following a rare Russian drone attack near the country’s western border with NATO member Poland.
Poland said on Sunday that a Russian drone had struck a railway locomotive inside Ukrainian territory, around 2 km from the shared Ukrainian-Polish border. The incident came just days after Kyiv said it had struck a crossing near its border with Moldova.
While Russia has previously targeted western regions of Ukraine, attacks so close to the country’s borders with NATO members are relatively rare.
Asked about the strike near Poland, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the attack had taken place on Ukrainian territory.
“If I understand correctly, this is about Ukrainian territory,” Peskov said. “Our military are fulfilling their tasks on the whole territory of Ukraine… They will continue to do so.”
The comments underline Moscow’s continued commitment to its military campaign across Ukraine, despite growing concerns in neighbouring NATO countries over the conflict’s proximity to their borders.
