Oceanly, a maritime technology company providing vessel performance, data management and fleet optimization solutions and ABB, a global technology leader in electrification and automation, are collaborating to give shipowners and operators a more integrated approach to vessel performance, voyage optimization, asset monitoring and energy efficiency. The collaboration brings together Oceanly’s expertise in high-frequency vessel data, performance and emissions monitoring and analytics with ABB’s extensive capabilities in marine technology, voyage optimization, automation, electrification and lifecycle management solutions.

A key initial element is the integration of ABB’s voyage and route optimization capabilities directly into the Oceanly Performance platform. This will allow ship operators to combine advanced voyage optimization with vessel performance monitoring, high-frequency operational data and performance analytics — all within one integrated environment.

Connecting actual vessel performance with voyage optimization
Oceanly Performance collects and analyzes high-frequency operational data from onboard systems, providing detailed insight into vessel behavior under actual operating conditions. Combining that insight with ABB’s advanced route and speed optimization will enable operators to draw on a more complete picture of actual vessel performance when making voyage and operational decisions, with the objective of reducing fuel consumption, emissions and operating costs. This opens potential for a continuous optimization cycle: measure actual performance, optimize the voyage, monitor the results and use the new data to continuously improve future decisions, streamlining the workflow from crew to shore side.

Strengthening asset visibility and diagnostics
The collaboration will combine ABB’s expertise in asset monitoring, lifecycle management and remote technical support with Oceanly’s high frequency data collection, alerts and alarm capabilities. Together, these capabilities can support fast and flexible cross platform integrations.

This will enable shipowners to better understand equipment condition, identify potential issues earlier and make more informed decisions about their options in predictive maintenance strategies.

Turning energy-efficiency measures into measurable results
A further area of collaboration connects ABB’s onboard energy-efficiency technologies with Oceanly’s vessel data and analytics capabilities.

High-frequency data and performance analytics provide the operational insight needed to identify efficiency opportunities and analyze the effect of measures once implemented. This creates an important link between technology and verification: implementing an energy-efficiency measure and using actual operational data to understand and quantify the resulting improvement.

From vessel data to action
The broader objective is to connect areas of vessel optimization that have traditionally been handled through separate systems.

By bringing together high-frequency vessel data, performance analytics, voyage optimization, asset diagnostics and onboard technology, Oceanly and ABB aim to create a more comprehensive approach to vessel efficiency.

For shipowners and operators, this means fewer disconnected systems and a stronger connection between data, operational decisions and measurable results, moving beyond simply collecting and visualizing vessel data towards a fully streamlined workflow to continuously improve how vessels are operated.

“The maritime industry’s workflow is still fragmented: crews collect data, analytics sit in separate systems, and class society verification remains disconnected. Together with Oceanly, we’re building an integrated workflow from crew operations through continuous analysis to class society-verified outcomes. This transparency creates the audit trail that regulators and stakeholders need—and strengthens the decisions operators make.” Osku Kälkäjä, Head of Digital Business, ABB’s Marine & Ports division

“The strength of this partnership lies in bringing together complementary expertise. Oceanly has more than a decade of experience in high-frequency vessel data and performance analytics, while ABB brings extensive expertise in voyage optimization, marine technology, asset monitoring and lifecycle management. By connecting these capabilities, we can provide shipowners with a more complete approach to vessel optimization – from understanding how a vessel is performing, to making better operational decisions and measuring the results.” Frederik Lerche-Tornoe, CEO, Oceanly

The cooperation is expected to expand as the collaboration progresses.
