A 20-year-old homemaker from Telangana allegedly died by suicide after consuming rat poison, reportedly distressed when her husband did not answer her video call on September 2.

B Akhila of Mahabubabad town was undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Warangal for six days before she died on Tuesday. She had married B Hussain, who works in the private banking sector, two years ago. The couple have a daughter.

Akhila had recently been staying at her parents’ home in Bollikonda village in Nekkonda mandal of Warangal district. According to police, she made a video call to her husband while she was there, intending to show him their daughter. However, he did not answer the call.

Police said Akhila was reportedly upset by the missed call and, after returning to her in-laws’ home in Mahabubabad, allegedly consumed rat poison.

Mahabubabad Town SI Md Basiruddin said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway. Following a post-mortem examination at MGM Hospital, Akhila’s body was handed over to her family.
